El Laberinto del Fauno - Pan's Labyrinth

A brilliant combination of fantasy and historical drama, Pan's Labyrinth alternates between a reality so shockingly brutal and a fantasy world so intriguingly dark so much that the entire film teetered dangerously on the edge of a gruesome nightmare. Set during post Spanish Civil War in 1944, Guillermo del Toro cleverly blends the two worlds together, creating an intricate tale as twisted as his imagination, but at the same time very much as enchanting as it was brutal.

Each facet of the movie was brilliantly realised by stunning cinematography that was executed to perfection. The magic and the gore were ingeniously weaved together to create a beautiful dark fairy tale, a masterpiece.

It is a shame that the movie is banned by the Malaysian Censorship Board. But if I managed to get a copy of it, then so can everyone else. Definitely recommended.
